In this challenging economy, people are being very careful in allocating their donations to organizations. We at Unshackle Upstate recognize that, and appreciate the chance to explain the importance and the value of a donating to our coalition.
Let's start with this: Politics across New York state is wasting your hard-earned taxpayer dollars every day! Your livelihood and that of your family, friends and colleagues is under attack by the very people we elect and send to Albany. Consider this:
- New Yorkers pay the second highest state and local tax burden in the nation. We have been first or second every year since 1977 - more than three DECADES!
- Your property taxes are 60 percent higher than the national average. Upstate has the nation's top10 highest county property tax rates as a share of home value.
- The state's private sector job count peaked in August 2008. Since then, New York has lost more than 180,000 private sector jobs.
As if these problems weren't enough, the budgets in the state of New York continue to rise even when revenues are down.. Look at the facts:
- Spending increased nearly 12 percent over the past two years
- Revenues were increased by imposing more than $8 billion in new taxes and fees in 2009 and an additional $1 billion more this year.
Who pays for all this? YOU, the taxpayer.
Unshackle Upstate wants to ease your burden by changing the way Albany does business. Unshackle Upstate stands up for millions of Upstate residents who demanded change from their elected officials. But we need your help, your active support and your contributions.
